Last week, I tried an online MBTI test: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp.
For those who don't know what MBTI is, it sort of a personality test. MBTI itself stands for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The result is in 4 letters of our personality preference. They are: Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I); iNtuiton (N) or Sensing (S); Thinking (T) or Feeling (F); Judging (J) or Perceiving (P). From those 4 letters, we could derive our dominant, auxiliary (balancing), tertiary, and inferior cognitive functions. More information: MBTI Wiki.
My test result: ENTJ- Extraversion iNtuition Thinking Judging. Here is a direct quote from ENTJ Wiki, regarding the cognitive functions:
The attributes of each personality form a hierarchy. This represents the person's "default" pattern of behavior in their day to day life. The Dominant is the personality type's preferred role, the task they feel most comfortable with. The auxiliary function is the role they feel the next most comfortable with. It serves to support and expand on the dominant function. One of these first two will always be an information gathering function (sensing or intuition) and the other will be a decision making function (thinking or feeling) in some order. The tertiary function is less developed than the Dominant and Auxiliary functions, but develops as the person matures and provides roundness of ability. The inferior function is the personality types Achilles' heel. This is the function they are least comfortable with. Like the tertiary function, this function strengthens with maturity.[1]
- Dominant Extroverted Thinking (Te)
- Auxiliary Introverted Intuition (Ni)
- Tertiary Extroverted Sensing (Se)
- inferior Introverted Feeling (Fi)
Here's another direct quotation from ENTJ Wiki, explaining ENTJ's traits:
The positive traits of an ENTJ are that they are assertive, outspoken, confident, outgoing, energetic, charismatic, fair-minded and they aren't affected by conflict or criticism.
The negative traits may lessen the impact of their strengths and they may appear argumentative, confrontational, insensitive, intimidating, controlling.
They often overwhelm others by their energy, intelligence, and desire to order the world around them. ENTJ's in general have a great amount of personal power and this is how they end up preferring to take charge. Also, ENTJ's are "knowledge-seekers" as they strive to learn new things, which helps them become good problem-solvers. They may be considered aloof and cold-hearted since ENTJ's appear to take a tough approach to emotional or personal issues, and so feeling and value judgements are not a place for ENTJ's.
But there's this one other sentence that made me laugh:
ENTJ is sometimes considered to be the ideal type in business - for example MBA students who take the MBTI are expected to test as ENTJ.
Coincidence? I have no idea. Was the explanation fit my 'real' traits? Well, I generally agree on some points... But I'll leave the final judging to other people who's been interacting with me for quite some time :)
